Bear Snores On

Bear Snores On is a great book by Karma Wilson. It was actually Karma's first book published in 2002 and it became a huge hit. The book seems to have a lot more text than the typical board book. But, it is a lot of fun to read and tells a wonderful story. The story takes place in a bear's cave. But, the bear is hibernating and lots of other animals come in to get out of the cold. The bear eventually gets woken up by all of the fun the other animals are having. I love the pacing and rhythm of the book. The illustrations by Jane Chapman are very realistic and expressive. Karma now has 30 different children's books and there a few others with bear and his friends. More Great Karma Wilson Books

Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants

Tommy absolutely loves this book. Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants is a wonderful boardbook by J.D. Lester. Lester provides a great and well rhymed story. The book looks at many of the often silly nicknames given to children. Tommy has my wife and I reading this over and over all of the time. He is always pointing at the playful pictures of the different animals. Hiroe Nikata uses watercolors to create the bright and cute pictures. The two worked together on their most recent book called Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug. This is the same idea with nicknames but, ones that daddy would give. This is set to be released on April 27th 2010. But, somehow you can already preorder it on Amazon.
